Kayamping

kayaking + camping = kayamping

Matthew has had the privilege of kayamping with Beth-Anne and Jason twice already this summer.

Kayamping Part 1
(Percy Priest Lake)

In May, during the first week of summer, Beth-Anne and Matthew went to Percy Priest Lake near Nashville.

Matthew's little Celica does a fine job, indeed!

Our campsite.

Although we had made a list of things to take, somehow we managed to forget a fire starter. Our pasta needed to be boiled so we needed a fire to start our stove which would in turn boil water. Fortunately, however, Percy Priest Lake, because of its location near Nashville, is quite populated. There is a beach nearby which Matthew paddled over to. There was a kind sir who gave us one of his lighters (thank you, sir!).

This following photo is of Matthew trying to start a fire with one of many different methods. None succeeded and was thus forced to paddle over to civilization.

There is nothing like the quietness of morning for devotions.

Beth-Anne thought the rocks had interesting formations.

"We'll get there fast and then we'll take it slow."

Kayamping Part 2
(Center Hill Lake)

This path leads up to our camping spot. Though we were on a lake, our site was in a clearing in the woods. It was a unique setup; quite fun.

We took a day trip to a hidden gem. This beautiful set of waterfalls I will keep secret unless you come to visit us. If you come to visit us, I will take you here. It is amazing. Our own secluded, private Hawaii not more than 45 minutes from here (and a kayak trip). Okay, so if you really wanted to find these falls, you could do some web searches and probably find them, but I won't give out the name more than necessary. Spectacular!

All in all, we did about 8 or so paddling miles (lake miles) in 2.5 days. Most of those, 6 of them, were done on one day. We were exhausted! 6 river miles are easy-peasy, but 6 lake miles are a totally different story.

We had a great time, however, talking, jumping, eating, sleeping, relaxing. It was an awesome trip. Both trips were awesome. There is nothing like spending time with family in God's amazing creation. I am finding that Tennessee has more amazing places to explore than I realized. I am overwhelmed by the large volume of waterfalls in central Tennessee alone!

For now, projects await, and the Basset Hounds sleep silently around my feet. Off to work I go.
